To Care is to Get Hurt

The blind Milton said that "to love and lost" is always better than "not love at all". In an Utopian world, this works perfectly. Milton's was full of sacrifice, of the desire to love without expectation. Perhaps, it is more of a divine love.

Brushing with reality is different. To love without being returned is awful... others would even resort to suicides. It is painful not to be loved. It is lonely. It is difficult. It is human nature. We want to be loved. We want to feel worthy. We want to feel cared for. We want to feel important to someone else.

Yet, too much love kills. But why we always love and care for people? Because it's also human nature.

A friend said that dogs are better than humans. When you care for dogs, they stay loyal and they don't throw words that can hurt you. Dogs are great friends... but never humans. There is so much complexity to being human. Caring for people is a given. We always do care for people because it's innate to us. We sympathize when  people are hurt. We try to understand them.

But time comes when our own hearts are broken. It is impossible to laugh without pain. It is impossible to smile without breaking. And yet, love is not there... and the care we need is not there.

Times when we think that it is better to be cold and detached, than be a victim of pain. Times when it is better to unlove and be strong. Times when it is better to be alone than with people, but your heart is breaking.

There's just a time when caring too much only leads to pain... and you can't care anymore. Not even love.
